Why 1 in 3 restaurant calls goes unanswered

Across 60 French restaurants, almost a third of lunchtime calls ring out. Here are the numbers, and the bill.

The phone is still the number-one channel for takeaway orders in France. It's also the one most likely to ring out. Between 12:15 and 1:30 PM, 31% of calls go unanswered. Not "picked up eventually." Unanswered.

That number comes from a study we ran in-house across 60 partner restaurants, from January to April 2026.

A missed call costs more than one order

When nobody picks up, the customer doesn't wait. They call the pizzeria next door. And next time, they start there. What you lose isn't a sale, it's a habit.

Do the math: €28 average basket, two calls in three that turn into an order. Every missed call is €18.76 that never shows up. And that's just today's order. The repeat business you lose doesn't even fit in this figure.

How Ordora takes back the phone

Léa, Ordora's voice agent, answers within two rings. She takes the order, reads it back to the customer, sends payment by SMS, and fires the ticket to the kitchen. Nobody left their station.

Want to see what that looks like? We filmed the whole thing on the demo page: three acts, from the call to the ticket.

What the pilot showed

  • +18% phone orders recovered, on average
  • 2 min 47 less human handling per call
  • 0 minutes of training for your team
  • 100% of payments collected before the kitchen even starts
